    We want to install some leds on our boat. We have both 12v and 24v onboard. What would you recommend for QuinLED product for this purpose? 3 different zones some around 30 meters of WLED. Appreciate any guidance!

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech 3 дні тому

      Depends a bit as always. The 12v and 24v, is that stable voltage or battery voltage? If the latter that could potentially damage things. Then it depends if you want one controller or multiple. For one you'd be looking at a Dig-Quad or Dig-Octa with wires going to the various strips (and power injections of required). Or maybe you could several Dig-Uno more locally to where the lights will get installed. 30m is long for an LED install so will require a decent plan. Maybe come to the Discord server and watch my power injection video? That should certainly help getting you the right stuff!

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech 3 дні тому

      Depends a bit on the length, especially for the 24v the Dig-Uno would do fine, can just do a single injection for 5m to 10m. For longer lengths a Dig-Quad or Dig-Octa would help out with multiple connections, power injection, etc.

    Hello. Can you respond with a brief comparison of this product with the SK6812 wwa thinking about general lighting with addressable LED only with white light?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech 3 дні тому

      The WWA is nice if you want 3 shades of white but their CRI isn't great, the CRI so quality of white light of the ws2805 is much better. Personally I would go with ws2805 unless you really need the warm warm orange white of WWA too. For primary only ws2805 is suited really.

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech 3 дні тому

      WLED supports usermod but they don't have Bluetooth support because of having limited memory already, so I think that's a no go. ESPhome you have a good chance though, it also supports much higher bit depth dimming which is also really nice. I run most analog stuff with ESPhome unless I need a standalone interface, then WLED shines!

      I was partly thinking the same thing, these still aren't greatly binned LEDs, it's more a mass market product which is "good enough" in that sense. But these combined LED packages used to be a lot worse even a few years back. For better quality you also kind of don't want such a combined package, harder to get all of them just right. But since it's an external chip, maybe some manufacturer will make a better binned quality with Seperate LEDs version!

  • @evanc1721

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech 4 дні тому

      I can't post pictures here like this but combined look pretty good and it seems both whites compliment each other well. Adding RGB into mix doesn't really help other then to change the color, does nothing for CRI since it's just a small spike in what is otherwise a mountain of spectrum. But you can use it slightly change the shade/color of the light a bit.

      Ah no, you'd have the red LED match the very specific frequency spectrum band in just the right places with the right intensity, that's almost impossible. Still color wise might be able to tune it to something you like better (but you will get multiple shadows) just spectrum wise generally it doesn't improve things really.

      @IntermitTech 5 днів тому

      Especially for 5v if you want to go up to 30A you want to minimize voltage drop and heating up of the wires at every stage. Power supplies have multiple terminals to accomplish this so if you really want to run 5v 30A it's recommended to connect with 2x 10AWG or at least 2x12AWG between the PSU and board. It makes it much easier (and cheaper) then running say 1x 6AWG.

    Amazing video I learned a lot! I have a dumb question which might be obvious to most - you mentioned we should only inject 4A max at front and end, and 8A in the middle. How do we ensure we supply the current in such way? Or am I not understanding it correctly, and when you power inject the strip automatically draws 8A in the middle for example?

    • @IntermitTech
      @IntermitTech 6 днів тому

      The max draw is regulated by the copper on the strip or rather its resistance. At around 4A most generic strips copper just can't support more current and starts dropping voltage because of the resistance instead. So it basically auto regulates itself that way, because of the resistance a single point will only take in so much while a point further away can still draw in power. That way, by spreading out the injection points over multiple injections on the strip, you can saturate everything to the max it can draw.

    Can the board be run at 13.8v? does it regulate to 12v when supplying the strips or does it not make much difference. I have a motorhome I want to setup an Octa and board in to run COB and white strips. I have 12v lithium that will probably charge around 13.8v and would prefer to run off this direct otherwise I have a 48v bank supplying an 240v inverter and would then have to use a 240v power supply to get back to 12v. Seems a long way around to do that though.

    Over $600 CAD before shipping... yikes :(

      I think this is very fair price for what you get. You must not understand cost of components used in

      @@maciej2991 I understand very well as I've designed and built many of my own boards, and can use digikey very well :P lol... its still a yikes price tag! Hopefully they can get enough interest and sales that they can scale up, recover some of the substantial development costs, and eventually reduce the price for the masses.

    Purchased the DigiQuad for my 1st ever WLED home project and so far I am very happy. The Quad was surprisingly easy to setup and so far I have used it to test each 15 foot section of 5volt 60leds/meter as I complete them. When done I’ll have 4 channels of sound reactive fun in the basement playroom.

    Would one of these boards be good for this project?I have never really worked with any type of microcontrollers or LED strips. But I have a project i want to try and also learn along the way. This probably isn't a great beginner project, but it solves a need for me. The project summary is, i have a 22' travel trailer and a tow vehicle with a 7 pin trailer connector. I want 16' to 20' of RGBW LED strips running underneath both the right and left side. The microcontroller would have 4 inputs (brake, reverse, right blinker, left blinker). Brake would light both strips in red, reverse would light both strips in white, and the blinkers would be in amber. I only want to use the power from the vehicle as a trigger, and the power for the microcontroller would come from the 12 supply on the travel trailer. I would also like a remote to control the LED's when not connected to the tow vehicle. Also, wifi and internet will not be available. What considerations should i consider? And what products might work best for this project? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

    This stuff is fascinating. I realy need to learn how to solder small pieces I've got too many damaged xbox pads about 20 maybe little more and whenever I buy old sound bars its usually charger or aux sockets that are damaged..

    static? i mean it could be static caused the problem and one or two transistor made a wrong move so it killed this part of the board. it is a assumption. i dont know how that board in particular works

    I'll say no length doesn't matter

    Nice video. Just picked up a RSP-750-5 for a 40 year old computer I'm trying to get working again, and this (and three other Mean Wells) seem to work. They came highly recommended by others in our retro club, but I was curious what others think as well.

    Originally I was searching for best practice regarding ethernet and router configuration, but now I wonder if (in case one has an oscilloscope on site) the best practice for varying cable lengths simply a poti is.
